The 2024 WSOP Main Event began at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
In the next four days, the world will watch to see whether the entry list for 2024 will surpass last year's Main Event. That event set a new record for the most participants ever, at 10,043, and had the highest prize pool in poker tournament history, at US$93,339,900. The final table is expected to be held on Tuesday, July 16th.
"This is the greatest poker tournament in the world," proclaimed defending champion Daniel Weinman this morning. Weinman won the 2023 Main Event and took home $12.1 million. He stated, “As long as I don't do it again, I intend to spend my life competing in this tournament, and I can't wait to see whose name goes on the wall next to mine.”
"We are prepared to make another unforgettable summer on the largest stage in poker," said Ty Stewart, the WSOP's executive director. With over a week to sign up, we hope everyone has safe travels as they come to take a shot at the Main Event. We're prepared for another record-breaking field.
Several notable events have taken place at the 2024 WSOP so far. For example, poker great Phil Ivey won his eleventh bracelet, putting him in sole possession of second place all-time, behind only Phil Hellmuth. Daniel Negreanu ended an eleven-year drought by winning his seventh bracelet in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.
Scott Seiver has won three bracelets this summer, putting him in the lead for the WSOP Player of the Year contest. Some people might want to ask him for gambling tips to win poker tournaments.
