Grand Prix Hassan II second-round winner Matteo Berrettini had to fight for victory after an easy first-round triumph.

An exciting match at the ATP 250 on a clay court ended with the Italian player defeating James Munar 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. In Marrakech, Berrettini could take a 6-4, 3-1, and 0/40 lead on his opponent's serve, but he had to work for a three-set win.

When they met in Berrettini's inaugural Lexus ATP Head2Head match, Munar saved four of thirteen break points. Also, according to Infosys ATP Stats, the player who was No. 6 in the PIF ATP Rankings before his ankle injury kept him out for six months. He is just competing in his second ATP Tour tournament this year. His first serve also contributed to 74% of his points.

Berrettini's countryman Lorenzo Sonego will be waiting for him in the quarterfinals of his first tournament in Marrakech. According to tennis highlights reports, the fourth seed recovered from a sluggish start to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Sumit Nagal.
