On Saturday, Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner sustained a skull fracture and concussion after being struck in the head by a 92.7-mph line drive.
In the second inning of the Phillies' 7-4 victory, Feltner was struck after his pitch was returned to him by right fielder Nick Castellanos. As he attempted to duck and dodge the ball, Feltner was hit in the back of the head.
According to sports and gambling news reports, the 26-year-old instantly collapsed but did not appear to lose consciousness. He was brought to his feet after a few minutes on the ground before being taken off the field by Colorado training officials.
Bud Black, the Rockies' manager, stated that Feltner had spent the night in the hospital and that tests revealed he'd suffered a skull fracture and a concussion.
Doctors assured Feltner that the fracture would not require surgery, according to Black.
After the event, Castellanos, who was safe with a single, seemed rattled.
